Why be SDA?

· Commitment to Biblical Truth
Have you ever read a passage in the Bible and found yourself asking why people would ignore such a truth?
Have you ever heard a message that you didn't feel was right or knew conflicted with the word of God?
The Seventh-day Adventist Church derives all of its teachings and practices straight from the
Bible, no exceptions. This commitment to the Bible as the ultimate source for
truth has helped prevent the introduction of human based beliefs into our
doctrine and provided
our church with a single unified message to be shared around the world. Some of
the Bible based truths we believe in include: the 7th day Sabbath, Baptism by
Immersion, Foot-washing, and much more. The personal satisfaction and happiness
that comes from practicing what the Bible teaches is crucial to a healthy
Christian lifestyle, and you would be hard-pressed to find a church more rooted
in the Bible than us.
· Focus on Prophecy and End Time Events
As hard as it is to believe given recent events, there are still a lot of Christian denominations
out there that do not teach about the last days and the events leading up to the
glorious Second Coming of Jesus Christ. As a Seventh-day Adventist, a great deal
of our ministry is focused on the events that will unfold in the closing hours
of Earth's history, and we take great pride in getting ourselves ready for that
glorious day when Christ returns. As Jesus instructed us to "watch and be
ready" special emphasis is placed on preparing ourselves mentally and
spiritually to do just that. Also, Seventh-day Adventists enjoy a deep
understanding of Biblical Prophecy and how it fits into the plan God has for His
church here on Earth. If you are interested in Bible Prophecy or End Time Events
the Adventist church might be a good fit for you.
· Health Message
One of the most unique traits of the Seventh-day Adventist church is its health
message and the emphasis on diet and life style. The majority of Adventists are Vegetarians
(no meat), while some practice the Vegan diet (no meat, no dairy) and others
follow the Kosher diet (certain meats ok) as instructed in both the Old and New
Testaments. The church recognizes that one's diet is a personal choice, and that
it has no impact
on a person's salvation, but out of concern for the health of its members and in
an effort to follow the teachings of the Bible as closely as possible the
Adventist church strongly recommends one of the diets listed above. As a result,
Adventists on average live longer and
healthier lives than the general population. In addition to emphasizing healthy
eating and helping to pioneer certain diets, the Adventist church also leads the
way in its message of temperance. The Adventist church labeled caffeine an
addictive drug long before the FDA did, and leads the charge against the alcohol
and tobacco industries while creating numerous programs to help reduce the
spread of illegal narcotics. Adventist's are also encouraged to participate in
sports and outdoor activities to maintain an active life style. If you are
looking for a church that truly cares about you and your mental, physical, and
spiritual happiness consider becoming SDA.
· Diverse, World-wide Family
Although the Seventh-day Adventist Church was founded in the United States
(1863), today 9 out of 10 members live outside the U.S. Of the 229 countries
recognized by the United Nations the Adventist church is active in 204 of them.
Adventist printed publications and audio presentations appear in 804 languages
and another 1000 dialects representing the commitment the Adventist church has to
fulfilling the Gospel Commission of Christ. This body of ~14 million members is
rich in diversity and is deeply committed to honoring the cultural and ethnical
differences of its members while enjoying the common bonds we share as brothers
and sisters in Christ. Adventist churches are committed to being open to all who want
to fellowship and worship the Lord, so please, if you haven't already, visit a
church near you and experience the warmth of our family for yourself.
· Educational Focus
The future of any church resides in its youth. Knowing this the
Seventh-day Adventist Church has made a commitment to providing quality education
for its members and surrounding communities. With over 1 million students
enrolled in its 5,846 schools the Adventist church has successfully mixed
quality Christian education with the latest hi-tech curriculums to provide its
youth with the education they need to be successful both professionally and
spiritually. If you have a desire to feed your mind both spiritually and
mentally than the Adventist church is a great church to be a part of. The
commitment to quality education can only be surpassed by the dedication to teach
the world the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
· Commitment to Local Communities
The Seventh-day Adventist Church is very committed to its surrounding
communities, and engages in numerous charity and disaster relief activities to
help make this world a better place for everyone. The Adventist Development and Relief
Agency (ADRA) is active in over 125 countries and last year provided over $100
million in aid and helped more than 16 million people. The Adventist church also
owns and operates 166 hospitals and sanitariums, along with 117 nursing homes,
371 clinics, and 30 orphanages. In addition to this, each local church also
provides relief and assistance to those who need it, as well as participating in
activities such as clean up/restoration, food/clothing pantries, food/blood
drives, mobile health stations, and much more. By becoming SDA you are not only
able to provide those around you and those around the world with food, clothes,
and medicine, but a message of hope and a promise of a better life ahead.
· Growing Strong
Another great reason to be Seventh-day Adventist is that this church is alive
and growing strong! Founded in 1863 as a movement amongst Protestant churches we
are already around 14 million strong and estimates show by 2010 there will be as
many as 27 million Adventists! As of right now a new member is baptized every 28
seconds, there is no doubt God is blessing this church! We still have a ways to
go, and the best is yet to come, but we would love to have you with us. So
please, look over what we believe and if you are interested and would like to
learn more come visit one of our churches or contact us and we will send you out
the information you are looking for. The Holy Spirit is doing powerful things in
this church and it is an exciting time to be part of it.
